Almost one third of workplace accidents are a result of unsafe manual handling practices and 80% of people will experience back pain at some time in their life. The People Handling/Risk Assessment training programme is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skill they need to carry out a Manual/People Handling Risk Assessment and to move clients and loads safely. This full day course is run in accordance with current legislation and guidelines i.e. Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2010 and General Application Regulations 2007 to 2016.

Objectives
On completion of this course the participants will be able to:
Understand Manual Handling Legislation
Understand how to protect yourself, your colleagues and your clients
Identify the risk factors associated with people moving and handling
Describe, and apply to your work, the principles of safe Moving & Handling
Content Includes:
Manual Handling Legislation - as it applies to the employer and employee
Anatomy of the spine and muscular system & mechanisms of injury
Ergonomic risk assessment
Principles of safe people/manual handling
Practice in safe handling of loads
Practice in safe handling of clients, including use of handling aids. (Banana board, slide sheets & wheelchair).
Overview on use of hoist (Note: Training in the safe use of hoist to be provided by supplier of hoist only)

Please ensure that all participants wear the following clothing:
Tracksuit or similar (no skirts, jeans or trousers other than loose tracksuit type material)
Suitable footwear; runners or similar (no MBT's, crocks, sandals or any other shoes that do not adequately cover the foot). Soles should be flat
No jewellery except wedding rings
Please inform the Instructor of any medical condition that you may have if you feel relevant to the training day and in particular the practical work
100% participation in the practical work is expected to successfully complete the course
Full Safetech certification of attendance is provided on successful completion of the course.

Unemployed
If you are unemployed and seeking work, you may be eligible for funding from the Department of Social Protection to cover all, or some of the costs of your training. (means depending, you may be entitled to up to €1000).
Candidates who wish to avail of this must make an appointment with a case officer in their local Intreo office, discuss their case & apply for funding. The candidate will receive a funding application form which they must sign & bring/post to us. Upon completion, we will send this back to the case officer who will then review the funding application.
Upon receiving funding approval in the post from the Department of Social Protection, candidates must then call us to reserve a place on our course. We cannot confirm a place on our course until funding approval is gained.
Employed
